About Air Multipliers:
When is a fan not a fan? When it’s a bladeless air multiplier, of course. Before we get into that, however, let’s first take a look at the fans we know. Typical fans are as simple as can be. A motor turns a fan blade and you get a breeze. But simple as it is, there are some pretty annoying things that are inherent to conventional fans.
To begin with, they’re hard to clean. You’d have to remove the fan guards and the blade, wipe everything down then put everything back together. Then, there’s air quality. The usual fans produce wind by beating air into submission. The result is noisy, choppy, turbulent air that gets pretty harsh depending on the settings you use. Finally, there’s always the danger of getting your finger caught in the blades. Nasty.
Luckily, there’s an alternative. The air multiplier, at first glance, is an oddity. It looks like a section of pipe mounted on a cylinder and makes anyone wonder how on earth it can generate a breeze. Well, it turns out, some pretty clever thinking went into this one. Basically, it draws air in from the pedestal and forces it out through small slots around the ring and over a surface designed to mimic the shape of an airplane’s wing.
This resulting vacuum then causes more air to flow smoothly through thus producing a breeze that is considerably less turbulent than a normal fan. This design is practical, too. It’s really easy to clean and is pretty safe because there are no visible moving parts for fingers to get caught in.
All said, the air multiplier definitely is a great thing to have but, there are many choices available so it pays to read up on it first before you pull the trigger.
